YouTube Was UK's Fastest Growing Social Network In April
PC ADVISOR - May 6 - YouTube was the fastest growing social networking site in the UK in April, says Experian Hitwise. The site accounted for 20.03% of all visits to social network sites by Brits last month. That's 0.98% up on March 2011, and 4.11% up on the same month last year. Furthermore, YouTube is the third biggest website in the UK.

Facebook And Google Mull Skype Deals
REUTERS - May 5 - Facebook and Google are separately considering a tie-up with Skype after the web video conferencing service delayed its IPO. A Skype deal could be valued at $3 to $4 billion. Skype's IPO is expected to raise ~$1 billion. For Skype, the clock is ticking, as large social media and software companies pour into the public markets. On Wednesday, shares of Renren, China's largest social network, surged ~57% in its first day of trade.

“Facebook Of China” Set For $5 Billion IPO
MASHABLE - May 4 - Renren, China’s leading and most-trafficked real-name social network, could raise up to $734.4M when it lists its shares on the New York Stock Exchange Wednesday. Renren is offering shares at $12 to $14, a 30% increase over its suggested offering of $9 to $11 per share just one week ago. At the $13 mid-point price and private placement to investors, the company could have a market value of $5.1 billion. Founded in 2005, the social network has a reported 117M users — compare that to Facebook’s ~600M members — though only 31M are said to use the service at least once per month.

Schools.com Launches Infographic Highlighting Professors’ Use Of Social Media
PRESS RELEASE - May 2 - Schools.com, an education website, has launched a new infographic that focuses on professors’ use of social media in higher education. In a recent survey of 2,000 faculty, Pearson researchers found that 80% incorporate social media into their teaching. Additionally, 90% utilize at least one social network for personal use. ~40% of professors are leveraging the YouTube platform to teach, while 30% use Facebook and 21% blog to better engage their students. On the other hand, Twitter sees very little academic use – only 7% of professors currently use it.
